In the weekends of 18 and 24 January, Het Nieuwe Instituut is present in the German city of Cologne: during the special VIP preview of the exhibition DOMESTIC AFFAIRS and on the fair imm cologne with 3D-printing workshops I AM INDUSTRY.
Het Nieuwe Instituut organizes an exclusive VIP preview of the Dutch design exhibition DOMESTIC AFFAIRS on Sunday, January 18th in Cologne, for which Het Nieuwe Instituut has invited a number of designers to be present in the context of international promotion.
Prior to this VIP preview, Bureau Europa organizes a debate on the current trends in Dutch design. Moreover, the relationship between designers and producers will be discussed. Director of Het Nieuwe Instituut Guus Beumer will introduce the debate.
Bureau Europa, Dutch Design Exchange and the Institute of Relevant Studies are organising the exhibition DOMESTIC AFFAIRS, which is an opportunity to hear a new voice of Dutch Design. DOMESTIC AFFAIRS features the work of Atelier NL, Bas van Beek, Elisa van Joolen, Erik Kessels, Metahaven, Simone C. Niquille, Raw Color, Helmut Smits, Studio Makkink & Bey and more. The public opening of the exhibition will take place on Monday January 19 at 7:00 pm and can be visited until January 25 (11:00 am - 8:00 pm).
I AM INDUSTRY
Het Nieuwe Instituut presents a series of design workshops and tools to the imm cologne public days visitors (January 24 and 25, 2015) on a 100m2 creative playground with 3D printing pens, MineCraft and more.
Het Nieuwe Instituut combines new insights from design and e-culture, inviting visitors to make extraordinary things with new accessible technologies. The focus of the workshop is on plastic as a material and the 3D-printing pen, a new digital toy which allows you to create your own three-dimensional structures. During the workshops, Dutch designers Bas van Beek and Helmut Smits will explore the possibilities of the tool and stretch its potential with the visitors to the fair.
Tijmen Schep, digital pioneer at Het Nieuwe Instituut, will show you in a second workshop how to recreate your own architectural models using the well-known computer game MineCraft. The results can be exported with Printcraft servers and you can take home your own model.
